Best Glycine Supplements

Glycine is produced that is naturally in the liver and is necessary for the central nervous system. Glycine supplements are known for their wide range of positive uses.

Colorless in form, sweet in taste, glycine is the simplest form of amino acids that is produced naturally in the body. Glycine is also found in meat, fish, vegetables, and fruits like spinach, pumpkin, kale, and beans, dairy products and other foods high in protein. Even though glycine is available in some foods, the amount of glycine provided in foods is not enough. This is why glycine supplements are available.

Even though glycine is primarily marketed as a supplement for restlessness and issues with relaxation, there are several benefits to glycine.

This is true for glycine that is taken under the care of a licensed physician. The supplement is relatively safe but should not be taken by children, women who are pregnant or nursing, or people with preexisting conditions. Some side effects of glycine supplements may include vomiting, nausea and upset stomach. It is always a good idea to discuss your options with your physician concerning use of glycine.

Glycine is an amino acid and neurotransmitter which can be produced by the body to some degree but is primarily obtained through diet and is found in protein rich foods such as meat, dairy, and legumes.

While Glycine plays a number of roles in the body, it is typically used as a supplement to improve sleep quality where in numerous studies it was shown to improve both people’s self-reports of sleep quality and reductions in next-day fatigue. In addition to its use for sleep, Glycine is also occasionally used to support liver and kidney health.

We recommend taking 1000 mg – 2000 mg (2-4 capsules) of Glycine per day on an empty stomach. If using Glycine to improve sleep quality, take the full day’s dose 1-2 hours before going to sleep. We do not recommend exceeding a dosage of 5000 mg (10 capsules) per day.

How Do I Take Glycine?

Any glycine supplement should always be taken as recommended on the bottle and as noted by the physician. The lowest dosage of glycine is approximately one to three grams daily. It is recommended that glycine supplements are taken before bedtime.

This will allow the supplement to work while you’re sleeping as well as assist with feeling awake and refreshed each day. It is not recommended that you take glycine if you have diarrhea.

Consult with your doctor before the use of any supplement, including glycine products. Express to your doctor all medications, both prescription and over the counter, that you are currently taken so that the right glycine supplement and dosage can be decided for you.

How Do I Pick a Good Glycine Product?

Not all glycine supplements are the same or made with the same ingredients. Always look for brands and products that are high in quality and sold by companies that are trustworthy.

It should not be used as your main source for glycine but as a supplemental product in addition to a healthy diet centered on protein. Look for a glycine supplement that has at least 1000mg per serving, which is the equivalent of one gram. Best results may come from glycine products that have minimal risks associated with dosage and use.

Keep in mind that results vary by person and could take longer to see depending on genetic makeup and body type.
